Executive Director of Operations and Policy
Phil Eskeland joined the Korea Economic Institute of America in February 2013 as Executive Director of Operations and Policy. Mr. Eskeland is responsible for the daily operations and overall public policy at KEI.
Prior to joining KEI, Phil Eskeland served over 27 years in the U.S. government, mostly as a senior Congressional staff person managing both a personal and a committee office. His last assignment was serving as Legislative Director for Representative Donald A. Manzullo of Illinois. Throughout his career, Mr. Eskeland specialized in the areas of international economics, foreign affairs, small business, and budget. He helped pass into law over 30 legislative initiatives and significantly influenced the direction of 20 regulatory or administrative actions by the Executive Branch. Mr. Eskeland successfully directed over 130 Congressional hearings, roundtables, and exchanges, including two annual rounds of the Canada-U.S. Interparliamentary Group. He also wrote numerous opinion pieces on behalf of Representative Manzullo that were printed in national publications such as the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
Phil Eskeland received his B.A. in Political Science from Wheaton College (IL) and his M.A. in International Affairs, focusing on U.S. foreign policy and international law, from the American University in Washington, DC. In 2007, Mr. Eskeland received the Outstanding Service Award from the Small Business Exporters Association in recognition of his work on improving various U.S. trade promotion programs to assist small- and medium-sized exporters. He and his family live in northern Virginia.
