 Dr. Randall Newnham earned his Ph.D. in 1995 from UCLA, while also working as a consultant for RAND Co. in Santa Monica. Since then, he has taught at the Berks Campus of Penn State University. His work has focused on the role of economic sanctions and incentives as foreign policy tools. He has explored the use of economic leverage by a variety of states, including the U.S., Germany, Russia, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. Recent works have included "Coalition of the Bribed and Bullied? U.S. Economic Linkage and the Iraq War Coalition" (International Studies Perspectives, May 2008) and "Carrots, Sticks and Bombs: The End of Libya's WMD Program" (Mediterranean Quarterly, Summer 2009). Articles focusing on Korea have included "Nukes for Sale Cheap? Purchasing Peace with North Korea" (International Studies Perspectives, May 2004) and "Embassies for Sale: The Purchase of Diplomatic Recognition by West Germany, Taiwan and South Korea" (International Politics, September 2000).
